During my timeĀ  in Burkina, I worked with Serving In Mission (SIM) and Burkina Faso Outreach (BFO) to contribute to ongoing Christian education in a village called Gobila, located on the outskirts of Yako. Yako is 2 hours northwest of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. While in Yako, I specifically worked with Lynn Peters who started BFO.

Last year, Lynn started a shelter classroom in Gobila right ouside of Yako. The pre-K classroom that was held at the shelter last year went so well that the students continued on to 1st grade. While in Burkina, I assisted the first grade teacher, mentored new teachers, developed Bible-based curriculum, as well as aided teachers and students with instruction and assessment.

In addition, I assisted Burkina Faso Outreach’s child sponsorship program and helped complete home visits, as well as organizing youth nights for some of the sponsored children.

The need was and still is great, the people are wonderful, and the children melted my heart. I lived a dream for 9 1/2 months by ministering to those that God had placed a burden on my heart for and the journey only continues now that I am back in the United States.
